by Harley Schwadron
A former newspaper reporter and public relations writer, Harley Schwadron has been a full-time cartoonist since 1985, specializing in business and topical cartoons.
He first syndicated his Big Biz daily panel with Davey Associates in 1990. Today the popular biz panel is titled 9 to 5, syndicated by Tribune Media Services.
In addition, his freelance cartoons appear in magazines around the world and his op-ed work can be seen in such papers as The Washington Post, Washington Times, Dayton Daily News, The Los Angeles Times and Des Moines Register.
“Business cartoons have always been my favorites,” he says. “Maybe this is inherited, because my father was a tax attorney and accountant. With my own background as a reporter, news-related cartoons also come naturally.”
Schwadron started as a reporter for the Hartford Times in Connecticut and later worked as a public relations news writer and college alumni magazine editor at the University of Michigan.
Working at the university by day, he churned out free-lance cartoons in the evenings, gradually building up his business.
A graduate of Bowdoin College in Maine, he also holds a master’s degree in journalism from University of California at Berkeley.
He lives and works in Ann Arbor, Mich. For many years he was a regular cartoonist in Punch magazine in England. |
